Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival
At the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, screening Beneath a Mother’s Feet was a moment of reflection. Gaza was always on my mind during the festival, and the contrast between the horror of its reality and the celebrations around me felt ever present.
The films shown came from a vast range of cultures and voices, each one offering a new perspective. Being in that environment made me think about the role of cinema in times of crisis and how films can carry the weight of stories that need to be heard.
Receiving an Honourable Mention for our film was gratifying, but it was the festival’s atmosphere of connection and dialogue that struck me most. The films offered glimpses into different lives and experiences, and each conversation between screenings deepened our appreciation of the many ways stories can unite us. Rather than simply a showcase of talent, the festival felt like a space where filmmakers came together to reflect on the shared responsibility of storytelling, especially in times when the world feels heavy with conflict.
What left the greatest impact were the small, intimate moments, conversations that went beyond the films, touching on the importance of human connection. Those exchanges were reminders of the role we play as filmmakers, not only to create but to engage meaningfully with the world around us.
Mallorca provided a backdrop that encouraged introspection. Its beauty seemed to mirror the contemplative atmosphere of the festival itself, as if the place itself invited us to pause and think about what really matters. Being there reinforced that our work is not just about recognition or accolades, but about using our voices to tell the stories that need telling, and to keep the conversations going long after the credits roll.
