SIEL International Bookfair in Morocco

I was invited by The Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME) to participate in SIEL 2022, Morocco’s International Bookfair in Rabat, on the 4th of June, as part of a panel discussion about migration, alongside the formidable Souad Talsi MBE, founder of Al-Hasaniya, the Moroccan Women’s Centre in London.

During the panel discussion, Souad highlighted loopholes within the UK’s immigration policies that leave victims of domestic violence, who are in the UK on spousal visas, vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.

I discussed some of the themes around my monologue, Your Own Shadow Will Leave You in Darkness, which was released on BBC Sounds and written in tribute to my mother, who walked out of her life as a young mother in Morocco and left her children behind.
